Search me

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
Their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow

Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what’s my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

And I find it kinda funny
I find it kinda sad
The dreams in which I’m dying
Are the best I’ve ever had
I find it hard to tell you
I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It’s a very, very mad world … world
Enlarge your world
Mad world

Quickie Update

April 25, 2009 · 2 Comments

Grrr.. I admit, I’m quite a sickly person. I’ve always been bugged by this sinus problem, and my nose keeps flowing like there’s no tomorrow. Sometimes, it gets so ultimate-ly irritating, I want to clip my nose up. Not a fantastic idea since the mucus would probably end up finding other openings to exit. Ok… too much panadol in my head now I think.

Will be going to Malacca with family tomorrow. Just staying for one night. I wonder what is there at Malacca? The only thing I know about the place is that Little Nyonya used to live there. But anyway, guess I can look forward to using the camera again.

And yep I have found a PT job to start next week. It’s at Millenia Walk. Current/future job hunters – please go to the Marina Centre area to hunt so we can be close neighbours.

That’s it, bye from sniffing me.

Settling Home

April 12, 2009 · 1 Comment

It’s been 3 weeks since I’ve left Beijing and 1 week since I’ve returned from Hong Kong. Life is slowly returning to normal, and the realities are sinking in.

1. NS is freakin coming anytime. Better start preparing.

2. I still haven’t got my driving license after N years. Time to hit the accelerators!

3. I’ve yet to meet up with friends whom I have not seen for the past half year. But they seem busy with themselves too, so…

People ask what I liked/hated/missed about China, so here’s my conclusion to it.

It was a great experience.

I liked, mostly, the freedom. The freedom to go anywhere I wanted to, to meet anyone I wished to, to eat whatever I hungered for.

I liked living in a real big city. Experiencing the hustle and bustle, the people from all woks of life, the frenzied rush on the subways, the neon lights, the POLLUTION. While it may not sound like the most appealing place, there is something about this chaos that is quite mesmerizing.

Whenever I made contact with locals like the taxi drivers, they were happy to engage in a conversation.

The conversation would ultimately come to them asking where I was from. And 90% of the time they would reply Hong Kong and Taiwan when I asked them to guess. There was also one occasion when someone asked me about Korea. NONE said S’pore.

“在新加坡吐痰会鞭刑”and“你们是不是很干净”were the eventual topics they never fail to bring up. And I would always  think.. it is quite sad people only know us for caning and fines.

Ok, back to topic.

Other memorable stuff. Ah yes, eating ice cream that never melts, having my S$4 Ajisen ramen after work, laughing at corny ads(优乐美奶茶) repeating over on buses, taking photos in snow, seeing Mingjun on TV, etc etc.

Of course, I hated the indiscriminate spitting and  lack of social graces. And yes,  the overly persistent sales people were really irritating. The negative list could go on and on, but I rather choose to overlook them now.

Finally, I’m not going to be like others and say this experience has changed me or turned my life around or whatever. Because it has not. I have simply chose to spend my last semester doing something different, hence benefitting in another way. And it has been a nice detour from the old routines back in S’pore.

NOW back to points 1, 2 and 3 above!

Some Campaign ads

April 9, 2009 · 1 Comment

Loved how everything came across subtly. The snoring sounded all to familar, btw.

This short film is by Yasmin, a Malaysian film-maker. Admire people who have a talent for expressing ideas through film so  seamlessly.

More of her works are on Youtube.

Such ads surely beats having management ppl attempting rap.

Talk about trying to hard. Lol!
